Council approves 2015 budget

Marlborough - City Councilors approved the $137 million budget proposed by Mayor Arthur Vigeant at the May 19 meeting, following a public hearing. It represents an increase of just under four percent over the current budget. The Finance Committee, chaired by Michael Ossing, reviewed and approved the document during only one meeting, making two cuts - from the bottom line and fringe benefits line item.

Residents ask to reverse decision on Ward Park for Senior Center

Marlborough – The City Council accepted, but otherwise did not act or comment on at its Jan. 28 meeting, a communication from a group opposed to a proposal for a new Senior Center. Residents and landowners of the Ward Park Neighborhood Association are appealing to several city agencies and commissions to reconsider the decision to locate the new center at Ward Park. The group, led by Paul Brodeur, stated in a communication to the City Council, "We believe that the deeply divisive decision to locate public buildings on badly needed park space should only be made after broad community discussion and consent."

Marlborough Senior Tax Work-off Program approved by council

Marlborough - The City Council unanimously approved the establishment of a Senior Citizen Property Tax Work-off Program at its July 23 meeting. The program, proposed by Mayor Arthur Vigeant, allows the city to provide local property owners over the age of 60 a reduction of up to $1,000 on the amount paid on their property tax in exchange for volunteer services to the city of Marlborough.

Groups host Community Thanksgiving for seniors

New power supplier secured for city residents
