Local residents on mission in Honduras

Northborough - Over February vacation week, two families from the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Westborough traveled to Honduras on a missionary trip. Nancy Ahrabi-Nejad, along with her daughter Corrine, from Northborough, and the Wolf family from Hopkinton, traveled to the area of Chachalaqua (pronounced "chachawala") in Honduras to help rebuild an Episcopal church that had been damaged in an earthquake a few years ago. Members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church have been going to Chachalaqua, in February for the past four years, and to another area for the past 10 years.

Local teen determined to help cousin battling cancer

Shrewsbury - Friends and family of those diagnosed with a serious illness, especially those that live far away, often feel helpless to be able to offer assistance and support. But when she learned that her cousin was diagnosed with a tumor for the second time in four years, Shrewsbury teenager Alannah "A.J." Laurence, 13, did not let distance deter her. At just 5 years old, in 2008, Alannah's cousin Darcy Cassidy, 9, of Meridian, Texas, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. She was treated at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., and was cancer free until March, when two tumors were discovered on her spine.
