Local Challenger League ends first successful season

Northborough/Shrewsbury - Players, buddies, coaches and families from Shrewsbury, Northborough and Millbury gathered to close the season of their Challenger Baseball League at Melican Middle School in Northborough June 21. The game opened with a group singing the National Anthem. Outs and keeping score are not part of this league, designed to simply allow players to enjoy the game of baseball. Every player has the opportunity to hit the ball, run the bases, and field the ball, with the support of their buddies and coaches. The game ended with trophies for all players and a cookout sponsored by the Mark Fidrych Foundation.

MHS senior Rumney is named MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month

Marlborough - Marlborough High School (MHS) senior John Rumney has been named as the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Student-Athlete of the Month for December 2013. In his four years in the MHS Panther football program, Rumney, 17, played three different defensive positions as well as quarterback, this year throwing for 1,900 yards and 24 touchdowns and leading the team to the MIAA Division 2 Semi-Finals and an 8-3 overall record. He also served as a team captain for the season.
