Westborough - The Westborough High School Rangers hosted the Shrewsbury High School Colonials for their "Tackle for Leukemia" football game on Oct. 19. Individuals fighting leukemia or who had lost their battle were honored with a special collection, raffle and recognition during half-time. The Colonials struck first, on a run by Nicholas Diliberto and point-after by Kristofer Swedberg for a 7-0 lead. The Colonials' Emmanuel Jalbert scored next, also on a run and Swedberg hit the point-after. The Rangers were able to get on the scoreboard with a field goal by Jack Churma (Kevin Sanders holding).

Southborough Community Fund awards $30,000 in grants

Southborough – Founded in 2014, the Southborough Community Fund (SCF) awarded 10 grants totaling $30,000 in its first year. SCF is one of three town funds formed within the Foundation for MetroWest (FMW), of which Judy Salerno serves as executive director. “One of the things the foundation does is assemble a group of people in their community to work on building local resources,” she explained. “We serve 33 cities and towns. We recognize that not everyone identifies with all of MetroWest; they do identify with their individual town, such as Southborough.”

Hudson – It is easy to get jaded by the holidays each year, especially when stores barely get the Halloween candy off the shelves before the Christmas items take their place. But every so often, there is a story that reminds you it doesn's really matter what you celebrate this time of year whether it is Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, the winter solstice or just winter. Because deep down, we know material items don's really matter. It's the people in our lives that are important. Recently members of the Hudson Lodge of Elks 959 shared a story that stresses that point. It seems like an old-fashioned Hollywood tale but Elks member Angela Govatsos ensures that it is 100 percent true.
