Shrewsbury MOVE students celebrate holiday tradition

0
Shrewsbury - While one student cuts a shoebox into the shape of a tiny garage, another uses a hair dryer to melt down a pile of marshmallows into a snow hill. These are some of the activities that define the creation of the annual gingerbread holiday house at Shrewsbury High School (SHS), one of the highlights of each holiday season at the school and a symbol of SHS’s continuing commitment to fostering connections to the local community.

Shrewsbury boys’ hockey wins Division 3 title

Shrewsbury - Having been snake bitten in each of the past two seasons with one-goal playoff losses - including a painful overtime shootout to eventual state-finalist Algonquin Regional High School in 2016 - there was overt determination that no allowance of a ‘three-peat’ would occur for the top-seed Shrewsbury High School hockey team. The undefeated and spirited Colonials took to the ice at Fitchburg’s jam-packed Wallace Civic Center March 12 looking to reverse their recent playoff misfortunes and did just that quite handily with a 4-1 victory over second-seed Wachusett Regional High School in the Central Mass. Division 3 Tournament. Shrewsbury (21-0-1) moved on to face Western champion Westfield High School (17-5) March 15 at Springfield’s MassMutual Center in a state semifinal.

Westborough author captivates readers with paranormal mysteries

0
Westborough - Kim Harrington wanted to be a writer ever since she could hold a pencil. She spent countless hours as a young girl dreaming up and writing all sorts of stories. When it came time to choose a career though, she realized that she had to be realistic. "I thought aspiring to be a novelist was naïve, like saying you want to be a rock star," Harrington said. "So in college I majored in marketing, then went on to get my MBA and join the corporate world. But writing still pulled at me. So I dabbled in it on the side, as a hobby. I wrote three novels that were rejected all over the place - and rightly so. Then I wrote "Clarity," which was published by Scholastic last year."
