Wayside presents awards on Senior Health and Fitness Day

Marlborough – In observance of National Senior Health and Fitness Day, a luncheon was served May 28 at Wayside Racquet and Swim Club with awards presented to deserving guests. The highlight was the announcement of the 18th annual George Fortin Fit for Life Award and the second annual Effie Ann Thompkins Community Service Award. Each of the award's namesake was in attendance. As is the custom, that morning began with the Al Kursonis Memorial Tennis Tournament. This year, three winners were recognized by Darren McLaughlin, general manager of Wayside.

Westborough – Although she did not win the top prize in the national competition of the Prudential Spirit of Community awards this past spring, Rebecca Ackerman is not disappointed. Quite to the contrary, she was thrilled at the opportunity, she said, to meet so many other young people who, like her, are inspired to make a positive change in the world. In March, she was named as one of the two Massachusetts honorees for the Prudential awards. Rebecca, who will be entering her senior year at Westborough High School this fall, was honored for her work as an advocate for autism awareness and research. She has a very personal reason that she is so passionate about this cause – her twin brother, David, is autistic.

Shrewsbury - Sam Quinn, 22, recently signed a contract with Radio City Music Hall to join the cast as a dancer with the Radio City Christmas Spectacular National Tour. The 2009 Shrewsbury High School (SHS) graduate is a 2012 magna cum laude graduate of the University of Arizona, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in dance.
