“Hope for the Holidays” returns in Marlborough

Marlborough – For the second year, the United Way of Tri-County is offering its "Hope for the Holidays" program in Marlborough to help brighten the season for families in need of assistance. Previously, the city's Human Services Department organized a similar program for many years known as "Holiday Helpers." Barbara LaGrenade, the director of volunteerism at the United Way of Tri-County and the office coordinator at the Marlborough Community Cupboard, said the transition of the holiday programs has gone smoothly.

Northborough Helping Hands collects Thanksgiving baskets

Northborough ??"Northborough Helping Hands Association, Inc. organized over a hundred Thanksgiving gift baskets at St. Bernadette's Parish Nov. 22 for families and seniors in need. Helping Hands volunteer Heather Capes said the organization has been holding Thanksgiving drives since its founding in 1920. Donations came from residents, schools, churches, Rotarians, and other organizations throughout Northborough. About 100 families will benefit from the donations. In addition, more than 60 senior citizens will receive Thanksgiving baskets this year.

Westborough - Like many teens, Michelle Tilton, 17, has a full plate. She attends Westborough High School as a senior and played soccer until she suffered an ankle injury. She also holds down a job at Uhlman's Ice Cream stand. Unlike most teens, Tilton has lived most of her life with the knowledge that her mother, Carol, is fighting a brain tumor. Shrewsbury – The Stewardship Ministry at St. Mary's Parish held the first Day of Service April 20 to allow parishioners to "live out their faith as stewards of God's many blessings," according to the day's organizers. Approximately 300 volunteers worked on service projects for three to four hours at locations in Shrewsbury and Worcester.
