Music moves kids at Northborough Library

Northborough- On April 24, the Northborough Public Library hosted a "Music in Motion," program to the delight of young children and their parents. Lisa Scarlett, from Appletree Arts, guided children as young as 18 months, through a series of lively songs and passed out musical instruments for them to play. "I have a background in early education and music," Scarlett said. "I enjoy working with young children and experiencing how music brings smiles to their faces."

Sixty seven residents homeless after six-alarm fire in Marlborough

Marlborough - A six-alarm fire yesterday at the Lake Williams Condominiums on West Main Street (Route 20) has left 67 residents temporarily homeless while crews assess the condition of the building. The fire broke out Monday morning at approximately 9:30 a.m. on the top floor of the four-story building, located at 271-277 West Main St., and quickly spread. Crews from 11 neighboring communities battled alongside Marlborough firefighters throughout the day to contain the fire until it was quelled by late afternoon.

Southborough/Northborough - For 2010 Algonquin Regional High School graduate Dayna Altman, heading off to Providence College to pursue a degree in social work brought excitement and eager anticipation. Being a perfectionist, though, it was not long before the pressure of school and the desire to excel in every area caused her to feel out of control. Like many young women, Altman turned to food as her source of control. She began actively restricting her food intake. As Altman struggled with perfectionism and "finding herself" as an adult, her eating disorder escalated, and it was not long before she was battling anorexia.

Northborough seventh-graders participate in Greek Olympic games

Northborough- On April 13, the seventh-grade students at Robert E. Melican Middle School participated in an all-day Greek festival. In conjunction with their Social Studies-Greek units and English Language Arts, students became Greek Olympians for the day, each representing an ancient city-state, including: Sparta, Thebes, Delos, Agenia, Argos, Delphi, Mantinea, Chalcis and Megra.

Westborough – Life can sometimes seem hard, unfair and full of challenge after challenge. But no matter what happens, you must keep moving forward, work hard and be true to yourself. That was the message imparted to students at the Sarah W. Gibbons Middle School on March 24 not by their parents or teachers. This time the message came from a group of young adults who themselves have known and overcome adversity to achieve success with the professional basketball team, the Harlem Ambassadors.
