Worcester – The top-seeded St. John's High School Pioneers faced the second-seeded Grafton High School Indians for the Massachusetts Boys Lacrosse Central Division 2 final? June 8 at Commerce Field at General Foley Stadium in Worcester.
The Pioneers got off to a quick start on a goal by Joshua Freilich (assisted by Andrew Smiley).? St. John's led 5-1 after the first period but Grafton roared back to take an 8-6 lead at the end of the first half.
In the third period the two teams battled evenly and the period ended in a 9-9 tie.? The fourth quarter was much of the same and the score was 10-10 at the end of regulation.
The first four minute 'sudden victory’ overtime period saw both teams miss several chances to score until the Pioneers’ Kevin Butler scored with 3:38 remaining to clinch the title for St. John's.
