Hudson holds Household Hazardous Waste Day Oct. 23Hudson – Hudson residents will be able to drop off approved household hazardous waste by appointment Sunday, Oct. 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, at the transfer station on Cox Street. Proof of residency will be required and appointments must be made ahead of time by calling 1-800-255-5566.

Unneeded household hazardous waste should be in sealed containers (use original containers when possible), 5 gallon maximum, and include stains, thinners and strippers, solvents and varnishes, adhesives, glues, waste fuels (kerosene, gasoline, oil), engine degreaser, brake fluid, transmission fluid, poisons, insecticides, weed killers, wood preservatives, hobby and artists supplies, fiberglass resins, photo chemicals, chemistry sets, cleaners, spot removers, swimming pool chemicals, aerosol cans, pesticides, antifreeze, motor oil, batteries, sharp items (needles and syringes), and intact spent florescent lamps.

Household hazardous waste items that will not be accepted include latex paint, asbestos, smoke detectors, ammunition, fireworks, explosives, prescription medicines, commercial or industrial waste, infectious and biological waste, radioactive waste, fire extinguishers, and propane cylinders.

To ensure safety, tighten caps and lids, leaving materials in original labeled containers; pack containers in sturdy upright boxes and pad with newspaper; sort and pack separately paint, pesticides, household cleaners; avoid spills and do not place in a garbage bag; never mix chemicals; pack your vehicle and go directly to the site, and never smoke while handling hazardous materials.
