Donald E. Carlson, 80Shrewsbury – Donald E. “Don” Carlson, 80, passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, with his family by his side, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Worcester.

He was the son of the late Eric and Marion (Erickson) Carlson, formerly of Quincy, and served his country proudly with the U.S. Navy Reserves for seven years.

He was the loving husband of Pauline (Chaulk) Carlson for 57 years. He is also survived by his children, Daniel Carlson and his wife Colleen, Deborah Cooper, Sandra Carlson, and Steven Carlson and his wife Laurie. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters, Dorothy Melsky and Ruth Higuera.

Mr. Carlson was a builder for many years in the MetroWest area. He was also well known as a second-story specialist. He was an active member of the Assembly of God churches for many years. His passion was in the building of churches and he faithfully helped with the construction of numerous smaller churches in the U.S. and many other countries.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, Dec. 22, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd. (Off Route 30), Wayland. The funeral service will be held Friday, Dec. 23, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bill Button officiating. Burial will follow in the Carlson family lot at Glenwood Cemetery, 25 Glenwood St., South Natick.
