Westborough ?A continuance of a site plan approval for a proposed drive-through window for a Dunkin” Donuts store will be presented at the Board of Selectmen's August 21 meeting. The hearing was originally scheduled to take place during the board's July 17 meeting; it was rescheduled at the request of the applicants” attorney, according to Town Manager Jim Malloy.
The store, which opened in 2002, is located at 35 E. Main St. (Route 30), and borders Colonial Drive. It is not far from the town's rotary, Bay State Commons and the CSX railroad bridge.
Negotiations between town officials and Dunkin’ Donuts representatives have been contentious over the past two years as the corporation strives to get approval for the drive-through window. The town officials have cited a number of reasons at prior meetings why they are against the proposal including: ?a lack of a bypass lane in the proposal; cars backing up onto Colonial Drive and even Route 30; little space for cars to back up if the drive-through lane was congested; emergency personnel not being able to get through heavy traffic; and delivery truck parking issues.
After the original site plan was rejected in September 2011, the applicant filed a claim in court, which was then remanded back to the selectmen for further review.
Board chair Leigh Emery asked that it be noted in the meeting minutes that no representatives for Dunkin’ Donuts were present at the July 17 meeting.
