Owen O”Leary's to open Westborough location

    By Bonnie Adams, Government Editor

Westborough – If all goes according to plan, Westborough will soon have another dining option – Owen O”Leary's Restaurant and Brew Pub. The proposed new establishment will be located at the site of now-shuttered Piccadilly Pub restaurant at 17 Connector Road.

The Board of Selectmen approved at its Dec. 11 meeting a request to transfer the All Alcohol License from Piccadilly Pub to Oscarita West LLC d/ba/ Owen O”Leary's.

Kevin Gill, who will be the owner as well as the manager, explained to the board that the new location would have a brew pub as well as a traditional restaurant. Beer will be brewed on the premises and the equipment would be showcased for patrons to view, he added.

Gill, who also owns and operates two other Owen O”Leary's, in Brockton and Southborough, said the restaurants try to emphasize “high-quality, fresh foods.”

“Sometimes it surprises people, but we really try to maintain that,” he added.

Leigh Emery, the board's chair, welcomed Gill to the town's business community.

“It's very nice to hear this,” she added.

The Piccadilly Pub on Connector Road abruptly closed down on Feb. 6 without prior warning to the public. Patrons who went to the restaurant that day instead found a letter on the door from the parent company, Massachusetts Pub Group, LLC that said “the restaurant had temporarily closed and a date had not yet been set for a re-opening.”

In an interview after the meeting, Gill said the Owen O”Leary's Southborough location, which is less than six miles away from the proposed new Westborough location, would be staying open as well.
