Shrewsbury/Westborough – The Hundredth Town Chorus (HTC) recently performed a holiday concert for the residents of Southgate at Shrewsbury. Accompanied by pianist Anne O’Brien, the ladies sang a medley of songs and danced a few steps, much to the delight of the audience.
“We were founded by the Westborough Women’s Club in the late ‘40’s.” explained director Wendy Damoulakis. “Westborough was the 100th town to be incorporated in Massachusetts, so that’s how we got this name. We do concerts once a week in May and December at various senior facilities to bring music to those who can’t get out.”
The four-part chorus of about 30 women will start its new season Wednesday, Jan. 6. The group practices Wednesdays from 9:30 – 11 a.m. at the Congregation B’nai Shalom, 117 E. Main St. in Westborough. There are four performances at the end of the season in May. Music includes Broadway favorites, seasonal classics, popular music and folk songs. HTC is open, without audition, to all women singers in the greater Worcester area.
“We’re always looking for additional women singers at the beginning of the new year,” said Damoulakis.
