obit-therese-matarGrafton – Therese S. (Otayek) Matar, born Decemeber 1932 in Bwar, Lebanon, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home in Grafton Friday, Nov. 4, 2016. She was predeceased by her parents, Angelina and Milad Otayek, as well as her siblings, Hanna Otayek, Youssef Otayek, Maroun Otayek, Simon Otayek, Remanous Otayek, Foutine Otayek, Mayla Otayek, and Filloman Otayek.

Therese is survived by her husband, Salloum Matar of Alexandria, Va., and her four children, Amine Matar of Alexandria, Va., Nora Zohni and her husband Dr. Khaled Zohni of Grafton, Gehan Youssef and her husband Sammy of Alexandria, Va., and Joe Matar and his wife Rola of Alexandria, Va. She has seven grandchildren, Dr. Myrna Zohni of Grafton, Micheline Torchon and her husband Estyvens of Northborough,  Ramez Youssef and his wife Amy of Alexandria, Va., and Ronza Youssef, Danny Matar, Anthony Matar and Peter Matar, all of Alexandria, Va. She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda, who passed away in 1975.

Therese’s family describes her as a loving and kind, but strong woman who always found the good in everything and everyone. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always smiling no matter the situation. She loved her plants and flowers, especially gardenias. She loved listening to music and dancing. She was a loving mother and devoted wife. Her grandchildren adore her and will always remember the special moments that she had with each one of them when she would make them feel like they were her favorite. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Family and friends will honor and remember Therese’s life by gathering Saturday, Nov. 12 at Liberty Church, 495 Hartford Tpke., Shrewsbury, where her funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The Reverend Russ Hurst will officiate. At the request of Therese, all those wishing to attend the service are requested to not wear black. She wishes to not have a time of mourning, but a time of celebration that she is now home with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Committal services will follow at the Pine Grove Cemetery, Prospect Street, Grafton. There will be no calling hours.

Following the committal there will be a lunch provided at Liberty Church in the reception hall. The family requests that you return for a time of being together and celebrating the life of Therese.
