Joseph C. Shay Jr.Hudson – Joseph C. Shay Jr., 95, of Hudson, passed away unexpectedly at home Saturday, Dec. 10, 2017. He leaves behind his beloved wife of over 66 years, Mary A. (Kerrigan) Shay.

Joe was born in Marlborough, the son of two Lithuanian immigrants, the late Joseph Sr. and Anna (Eyoungski) Shay. He graduated high school in the class of 1940 and shortly after entered into service, proudly serving his country in the United States Army, during World War II, spending time in the Pacific. After completing his military service he attended Burdett College of Business in Boston, where he met the love of his life and his future wife.

Joe worked for over 22 years as the finance director for the town of Hudson before his retirement in 1989.

Joe enjoyed his retirement, traveling all over the world with Mary. He was an avid New England sports fan, enjoyed playing golf and also reading his newspapers daily. Joe served as the Corporator at Avidia Bank and also as an usher at Saint Michael Parish. He was a lifelong member of the Hudson Elks and V.F.W. Joe most enjoyed spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his children, Patricia M. Shay and Timothy J. Shay and his wife Dawn Marie; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his nephew, Joseph Furtado. He was also predeceased by his son, Michael J. Shay, and his sister, Anna Furtado.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 4-7 p.m., at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home of Hudson, 50 Central St., Hudson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Dec. 13, at 9 a.m., at Saint Michael Parish, 21 Manning St., Hudson, followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery in Hudson for final committal services.
