Westborough – Donald R. Foss, 93, died due to complications from COVID on May 26, 2021. He was raised in Harvard and moved to Westborough 70 years ago when he married Shirley Adams who died in 2018.
He was predeceased by his parents, Clara and Bernard Foss; his sister, Florence; brothers Robert and John; son David; and granddaughter Melissa. He is survived by his daughter, Audrey (Richard) Williamson of Kennebunk, Maine; daughter Elaine (David) McCrabb of Warrenton, Va.; son Brian Foss (Dennis Fruitt) of Stuart, Fla.; granddaughters Robin (Johan) Jonsson of Poland, Maine and Shannon (Ethan) Gilman of Steep Falls, Maine; great-grandsons Ronan and Arthur Jonsson; great-granddaughter Daphne Gilman; nephew Wayne Larson; and nieces Jennifer Larson, Nancy Rondeau, and Suzanne Foss Scott. He also leaves his sister-in-law, Phyllis Foss, and in-laws Claire and William Larson.
A first generation American, and first in his family to graduate from college, he received degrees in government from the University of Massachusetts, and the School of Industrial Management at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a World War II era veteran of the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, and a member of the American Legion. During his career he worked in purchasing and materials management for Rockwood Sprinkler, CPC Engineering, Federal Mogul, and Vellumoid.
For more than 35 years, he and Shirley enjoyed weekends at their log cabin in Sharon, Vt., and traveling throughout Europe with a special passion for Ireland. After retirement, he operated Piccadilly Collectibles for more than 25 years, sharing his love of antiques with his customers. He was an avid reader of history. He and Shirley were members of the Congregational Church of Westborough.
His family expresses deep appreciation to the staff of The Highlands of Westborough, Rev. John Sugden, and the Jewish Healthcare Center of Worcester.
