Hudson – Florence (Jeffrey) Freitas, 86, of Hudson, MA, died Monday, May 29, 2023. She was daughter of the late Oliver and Norma (Prevost) Jeffrey and wife of the late Antone Freitas, Jr. She was predeceased by her brother, Maurice Jeffrey.
Everyone who met her agreed that Florence was the most positive person they knew. She always looked for the best in people and never had a negative word to say about anyone. With her bright smile and sunny disposition, she easily made friends wherever life took her, from Massachusetts to Japan, from Maine to Florida. An avid reader, Florence would read two or three books each week. She enjoyed many hours putting jigsaw puzzles together and sharing puzzles with her friends.
Florence was the best of mothers to her five children. She was always there whenever they needed her, whether to listen without judgment to their problems or to fly cross-country to take care of them when they were sick. She leaves behind her a legacy of love, caring, and generosity that her family will never forget.
Florence is survived by her sons, Michael Freitas and his partner Jayne Dampier of North Kingstown, RI, David Freitas and his wife Lynn of Raeford, NC, and Jeffrey Freitas and his wife Gwen of Fountain Inn, NC; and by her daughters, Norma Freitas of Hudson, MA, and Kathleen Pettengill and her husband Rick of Okeechobee, FL. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Jennifer, Joseph, Jillian, Oliver, Rodrick, and Mason, and her four great-grandchildren, Chelsi, Logan, Grace,and Poppy.
A celebration of life for Florence will be held on Sunday, October 1, in North Kingstown, RI.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that people donate to a public library of their choice.
