William J. StantonShrewsbury – William J. “Bill” Stanton, 93, of Shrewsbury and most recently of Northborough’s Whitney Place community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2023 with his loving family by his side.

He leaves his beloved wife of 68 years, Margaret R. (Quinn) Stanton; their children, William P. Stanton and wife Marybeth, of Holden, Thomas P. Stanton and wife Patty, of Holden and Fort Myers, FL, and Ellen M. Stanton-Randall, of Shrewsbury; grandchildren, Lauren Alzate, Ashley Stanton, Alex Randall, Brendan Stanton, and Ryan Stanton; and great-grandchildren, Gavin Lavallee and Nora Alzate. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Annmarie Stanton; and his parents, William and Lauretta (Donnelly) Stanton.

Bill was born in Worcester in 1930. He graduated from St. John’s High School in 1948, then received his Bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross, in 1952. A year later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country proudly, before his honorable discharge in 1955. Bill married his beloved Margaret on January 8, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church in Worcester, and they settled in Shrewsbury to begin their life together.

Bill had an extensive career of over forty years working at Paul Revere Insurance, as an Insurance Salesman.

A man of strong faith, he loved serving Mass as an usher at St. Mary’s Parish, at the Saturday vigil Mass. He also worked as a volunteer for Partners in Charity, formerly the Bishop’s Fund. Bill was a member of the Knights of Columbus Adelphi Council #4181 in Shrewsbury.

He also enjoyed camping with his family, financial investing/trading, and flower gardening.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the Stanton family from 9:30 – 10:30 AM on Friday, November 3, 2023 at the BRITTON-SHREWSBURY FUNERAL HOME, 648 Main Street, Shrewsbury. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 AM next door at St. Mary’s Church, 640 Main Street, Shrewsbury, with burial, and military honors, to follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester.
