Sylvia Weinstein Sussman, M.D., 95, of Westborough

Westborough – Sylvia Weinstein Sussman, M.D. died peacefully at her home in Westborough, Massachusetts on November 23, 2023 at age 95.  Born in New York in 1928, she was the daughter of Isador and Bertha (Poretsky) Weinstein.

Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Ben-Ami Sussman, to whom she was married for 70 years, and is survived by her three children:  Jeffrey Sussman, MD (wife Anita Jones Sussman), Susan Sussman (husband David Ammerman, MD), and Janet Sussman;  six grandchildren: Walter, Benjamin, Jeston, Ella, Emily and Rachel, as well as seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves her sister Edith Miller and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Sylvia graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Cornell University. She obtained her MD degree from the University of Buffalo Medical School and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. She had a distinguished career as an Anesthesiologist at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, and Sacred Heart Hospital and the Fairgrounds Surgical Center in Allentown.

Sylvia held leadership positions at several charitable and cultural organizations including Jewish Family Services of the Lehigh Valley, Congregation Am Haskalah and the Institute for Jewish Christian Understanding.

A life-long learner, she was curious about the world, always reading and studying something new. She and her husband traveled widely, usually with friends and family. They never returned home from a trip without having made new friends.
