The Rev. Dr. Robert G. Goehrig Jr.Shrewsbury – The Rev. Dr. Robert G. Goehrig Jr, died peacefully at the Shrewsbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on April 4, 2024, after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

He was born on August 3, 1935, in Lancaster County, PA, to Robert G. Goehrig, Sr. and Margaret Mable Goehrig, the oldest of six children.

After two years in the Marines, he became a journeyman printer, before answering God’s call to ordained ministry. He was a pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and served congregations in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. He also served on the Bishop’s staff of the Western PA/West Virginia synod (LCA) and as Vice President for Resource Development at the Lutheran Seminary at Gettysburg.

Pastor Goehrig is survived by his wife, the Rev. Alice Kerr Laird, of Shrewsbury, MA; his children, Robert Goehrig, III and his wife Lori, of Spring Hill, FL, Pamela G. Thomson, of Shelbyville, DE., Michael Gisick and his wife Megan, of Canberra, Australia, and Kathryn Ricker and her partner Michael Fredette, of N. Grafton, MA; his sister, Linda Hersh and her husband Barry; his brother, Michael and his wife Marcy, all of Lancaster, PA.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter, Yvonne McDowell, his sister, Sue, and two brothers, Thomas and Roger.

Funeral services for Pastor Goehrig will be held on Saturday, April 13, at 11:00 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester, MA. Committal will be this summer at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 407 York St., Box 364, York Harbor, ME.

Memorial gifts may be given to either church.
