Westborough – Mark Hasso, Ph.D., P.E., a professor in the Department of Construction Management at Wentworth Institute of Technology, was recently honored by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) with its first-ever Educator of the Year Award.

In an effort to form a stronger link between teaching and practice in the field of construction management, CMAA formed an Academic Outreach Council last year, and created the Educator of the Year Award to recognize an academic leader. Construction management educators from across the country were evaluated for the award based on their dedication to improving the teaching of construction management to meet industry needs.

Hasso has been involved with the design and construction industry for over 30 years and has performed structural design and managed construction of institutional and environmental projects, nationally and internationally, specifically high-capacity irrigation pumping systems, multi-million-gallons-per-day water treatment plants, and pre-cast pre-stressed concrete structures.

He is a registered professional civil engineer and holds doctorate and master's degrees in construction management from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, in Worcester, and a master's degree with distinction in civil engineering (highways and transportation) from the City University of London.

He is also the past-president of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and a founding member of the Construction Management Association of America-New England Chapter (CMAA/NE), where he continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He was honored as the 1998 Person of the Year of CMAA/NE, besides several recognitions from other organizations.

As well as being a trustee at Anna Maria College, in Paxton, Hasso formerly has served on the boards of the Engineering Center Education Trust, Boston, Associated General Contractors of Massachusetts and the CMAA Foundation,
