NORTHBOROUGH – Cheers filled the gymnasium at Algonquin Regional High School on Friday night as fans gathered to see the Harlem Wizards face off against a team of teachers and staff called the Borough Breakers.

The Wizards are a “show basketball entity” performing and supporting fundraising events across the country.

This event served as a fundraiser for Northborough kindergarten through eighth grade schools.

Initially slated to take place in 2020, the game has been postponed many times, according to Peaslee Elementary School PTO co-chair Erin Tagliaferri

“We’re happy that we’re finally able to hold it,” she told the Community Advocate.

The game had previously been held several years ago, and Tagliaferri said it was a success.

“People were looking forward to it,” she said.

Tagliaferri said 750 tickets were sold in a pre-sale ahead of the game. Guests were also able to get tickets at the door on the day of the game.

Tagliaferri estimated that upwards of 800 total tickets had been sold when she spoke prior to tip-off.

“I think it’s a great community event,” Tagliaferri said. “People haven’t really been together in two years. So, we were happy to be able to do this and bring everybody together for a fun family night.”
