Shrewsbury Candidate Statement – Housing Authority – Anand Sharma
Anand Sharma

Please provide a brief biographical background on yourself. What should voters know about you?

I have called Shrewsbury home since 2001 and live here with my wife Meenu and 2 children Jiya and Arvin.

Born in a small farming family, my mother did not know how to read or write. We had no electricity in our village at that time. Based on merit in academics, I received the scholarship from the state government and that helped fund my high school education in the city. I completed B.E. in Electrical Engineering followed by M.B.A. I currently work as an IT specialist with MIT Lincoln Laboratory based in Lexington.

Why are you running?

My vision is to increase the affordable housing in Shrewsbury. The position I am running for is a volunteer position on the Shrewsbury Housing board. I believe my real-life experience in managing multi-family units, my understanding of financial and operational aspect of the business will be very valuable at a time when suppliers and material cost is increasing year after year. My experience will help us increase more housing opportunities for our residents.

What are the three biggest issues facing the Housing Authority?

1) Providing more affordable housing to its Shrewsbury residents; 2) controlling cost of operations and maintenance; 3) provide more facility to our current residents.

How would you address these issues?

Will work with the SHA Board, Town leadership and State leadership to resolve these issues.
