Westborough to save $792,000 with new electricity contract
Westborough – A new contract with the TransCanada Corporation will save the town of Westborough just over $792,000 in services related to electricity starting in fiscal year (FY) 2014.
Town Manager Jim Malloy told the Board of Selectmen at its Nov. 27 meeting that the town will be ending its current five year contract at the end of FY13. That contract charges $0.124 per KwH.

Westborough to keep single tax rate
Westborough – Westborough will continue to keep a single tax rate, a move officials feel will help the town be competitive as it tries to attract more businesses.
In a presentation to the Board of Selectmen at its Nov. 27 meeting, Chief Assessor Linda Swadel reviewed the draft tax recap. The tax rate for fiscal year (FY) 2013 is $18.97; a decrease of 24 cents from the FY12 rate of $19.21.
Westborough volunteers come together to help Gingras family
Westborough – A Westborough family has gotten an early holiday gift thanks to volunteers from two local churches and a local foundation – a ramp that will allow them easier access in and out of their Steven Road home.
In June 2011 Jim Gingras Jr. was in a devastating motorcycle accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Over the course of two weekends in November, volunteers from the Congregational Church of Westborough and St. Luke's Parish met at the Gingras home to construct a handicap-accessible ramp.
