Marlborough – John Bonina, 94, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 2, 2011 after a long period of failing health. He was the husband of Jennie (Colecchi) Bonina, to whom he was married for 69 years.

He was born in Milford, the son of the late Nunzio and Rose (Martinangelo) Bonina, and lived in Marlborough for over 90 years. As a young man, he worked for many of the local shoe manufacturers, lastly with the former Diamond Shoe Company. He then worked 15 years as a custodian for the Marlborough Public School system, retiring in 1982. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard during World War II.

Mr. Bonina was a member of the Italian American Veterans Club Post 45 of Marlborough, the Amvets Post 1980 of Marlborough and, along with his wife, was a longtime member of the former Saint Ann's Church in Marlborough. He enjoyed making many trips to Foxwoods Casino and above all else loved spending time with his family.

He is survived by three daughters, Patricia Barry Roache of Weymouth and Marco Island Fla., Roberta Gaucher of Shrewsbury, and Nancy Boisvert of Falmouth; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Dominic Bonina.

His funeral will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, at 11 a.m., in Saint Bernadette's Church of Northborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery of Marlborough. Visiting hours are Saturday, Nov. 5, from 9 to 10 a.m., at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 95 West Main St., Marlborough.
