Shrewsbury – Rita B. (LaCoursiere) Capalbo, 83, of Shrewsbury and Wells Beach, Maine, passed away Monday, Dec. 26, 2011 in the Ichabod Washburn-Hospice Residence, with her loving family by her side. Her husband, Leo Capalbo of Shrewsbury Oil, predeceased her in August 1994.
Born in 1928 in Worcester, to Arthur and Roseanna (Goulet) LaCoursiere, she was predeased by her brothers, Andrew and Alfred LaCoursiere, and by her beloved niece, Mary Frances Capalbo.
She worked for 40 years as an LPN at Masonic Hospital in Shrewsbury, the Southeast Florida State Hospital in Lantana, Fla. and USVA Veterans Hospital in Rutland Heights, Mass. She also worked with her husband as co-owner of Shrewsbury Oil Company.
She is survived by many loving and caring nieces and nephews, especially Joe and Bernadette LaCoursiere of Worcester, and Donald and Kathleen LaCoursiere and Steven Capalbo, all of Shrewsbury.
The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Savitt and the staff at the Memorial Campus of UMass, Dr. Harrison Ball of the Levine Cancer Center and the VNA nurses, Suzanne Dwindell, Sharon H. and Kerry – their care and compassion was much appreciated. Thank is also expressed to the entire staff at the Ichabod Wahsburn House, in particular, Marie and Lisa Weston. Many thanks to Saint Peregrine for his answer to my prayers and extra time.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, Dec. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Mercandante Funeral Home & Chapel, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral will be held Friday, Dec. 30 from the funeral home, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in Saint Anne's Church, 120 Boston Tpke. (Route 9), Shrewsbury. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
