Marlborough – Antoinette E. “Ann” (Savino) Trolla, 98, died peacefully Friday, April 6, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Joseph A. Trolla, who died in 1972. They were married for 25 years.

Born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Giuseppi and Rosa (Mitarotonda) Savino, she moved to Marlborough with her husband in 1947.

Mrs. Trolla worked as the Clerk of Courts for the Worcester County Courthouse for 10 years and also worked for the City of Marlborough in the Tax Collectors Office as the Assistant Tax Collector.

While in Worcester, she was active in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, singing in the choir, serving as parish secretary, teaching Christian Doctrine classes and president of the Sacred Heart Sodality. Always proud of her Italian American heritage, she was a past president of the Italian Americans Citizens Club, which worked to help Italian Citizens to prepare for citizenship in the United States. During World War II, she served on the Italian American Defense Committee, sending letters and packages to men in the armed forces and sending supplies and clothing to war-stricken Italy.

Mrs. Trolla was a longtime member of the Sons of Italy in America in the Fratelli Bandiera Lodge 240 of Worcester and the Bandiera e Concordia Lodge 240 of Marlborough. She served Worcester lodge as Trustee, Recording Secretary, and Assistant Supervisor to the Worcester Junior Lodge. As a member of Marlborough lodge, she served as Trustee, Assistant Venerable, Venerable, and Delegate to the Grand Convention and many other committees in the organization, and was named citizen of the year by the lodge in 1983.

She was also a longtime member of the former Saint Ann's Parish in Marlborough, where she sang in the choir and was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Sodality. She also served the parish as a member of the parish council.

She is survived by her son, Joseph M. Trolla of Malden; her daughter, Florinda R. Sullivan and her husband, Dennis H., of Tewksbury; her daughter-in-law, Laurel Trolla of Marlborough. eight grandchildren, Meredith Lively and husband Brian, Christopher Trolla, Karl Trolla, and Matthew Trolla, Erin Joseph Sullivan and wife Robin, Lura Hanks and husband David, Mira Leiwant and husband Andrew, and Cara Drew and husband Robert; 14 great-grandchildren, Delia, Colleen and Kyle Sullivan, Austin, Dylan and Chiara Leiwant, Nathan and Natalie Hanks, Trevor, Alexa and Peighton Drew, Brianna and Joseph Lively, and Kamron Trolla; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Frank, Rocco and I. Thomas Savino.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 9 a.m., in the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Visiting hours at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, 9 West Main St., Marlborough, will be held Tuesday, April 10, from 5 to 8 p.m.
