Ann Marie McAdam, 65Shrewsbury – Ann Marie (Martocci) McAdam, 65, a longtime resident of Shrewsbury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 15, 2012, in the arms of her family, after a period of declining health.

Ann Marie was born in Worcester, the only child born to Charles J. “Mac” and Isabel B. (Caputo) Martocci. She moved to Shrewsbury as a little girl, and was educated in its school system, graduating from Shrewsbury High School. She then earned her Associate's degree by attending Quinsigamond Community College and graduating from Worcester State College.

She began a career working for the Gould Family at Big D supermarket in Shrewsbury Center, where she met her husband of the past 42 years John B. McAdam. They fell in love and married, and she continued to work for Big D, becoming secretary to the president. John and Ann Marie settled in Worcester to raise their family, before moving back to Shrewsbury for good in 2006.

Ann Marie is survived by her devoted husband, John; her beloved daughter, Amy Toohey and her husband, Paul, of Worcester; a granddaughter she cherished, Alaina; her aunt and uncle, Peter and Virginia Mancini; and nieces, nephews, extended family, and a host of friends.

After leaving the employment of the Big D supermarket, Ann Marie worked payroll and collections for Webster Square Medical and then the UMass-Memorial Healthcare before retiring.

Ann Marie a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and found her greatest joy in the arms and company of her family. She cherished the moments she could spend with Amy and her granddaughter Alaina. They were the best times of her life. She also enjoyed shopping with Amy and ceramics, and was an enthusiastic Patriots Fan. At one time, Ann Marie volunteered as a cheer-leading coach for the Worcester Youth Football.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family, Sunday, Aug. 19, from 3 to 6 p.m., in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester. Her funeral will be celebrated Monday, Aug. 20 from the funeral home, with a procession to St. Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will follow in St John's Cemetery.
