Shrewsbury – Adele J. (Jurasz) Hurst, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, June 8, 2013 with her family gathered by her side. She was 87.
Born Jan. 3, 1926 in Chicopee, she was a daughter of polish immigrants, Francizek and Aniela (Juraszek) Jurasz. She graduated from Chicopee High School in 1943, where she served as class secretary. It was in high school where she met John W. “Jack” Hurst and their immediate friendship blossomed into a marriage that would last over 67 years. They married in St. Stanislaus Church in Chicopee Nov. 27, 1946 and later moved to Shrewsbury in 1964.
Adele worked in the Assessor's office for the Town of Shrewsbury for many years before retiring.
She loved her family and all the details that being a mother and wife entail. She was a great cook, enjoyed sewing, loved to sing, weekly trips to the movies with her children or grandchildren, faithful membership in Saint Mary's Church and the friendships that developed from membership in Shrewsbury Business Women's Club.
Adele was predeceased by her sisters, Estelle Arlen, Jane Loux, and Judy Witowski.
In addition to her husband, Jack, she leaves her children, JoAnne T. O’Neill of Shrewsbury, William F. Hurst and his wife, Yelena Raben, of Fairfax, Virginia, John M. ‘Jack’ Hurst and his wife, Kathy, of Dudley, and Lisa Hurst de Faria and her husband, Pedro Sampaio de Faria of Jupiter, Florida; her grandchildren, Michael, Peter and Thomas O’Neill, Francesca Hurst, John and Jocelyn Hurst, Beatriz and Miranda Sampaio de Faria; her great-grandson, Patrick O’Neill; and many nieces and nephews.
Adele's family will gather privately to honor and remember her life in Heald & Chiampa Funeral Directors -The Sumner House, 5 Church Rd., On the Common, Shrewsbury. Msgr. Michael Rose will officiate. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury, at a time to be announced.
