Shrewsbury – The St. John’s High School Pioneers baseball team defeated the Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks by a score of 5-0 in a game played May 25.
The game was scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning when St. John’s Craig Corliss scored on a Derek Lefebvre single to right field. St. John’s broke the game wide open in the sixth inning with an additional four runs. St. John’s Jack Gardner had two hits and Jared Wetherbee pitched a complete game and struck out 11 in the victory. Algonquin’s best chance to score came in the top of the fourth inning, when Matt Geoffrion doubled and then advanced to third base on a wild pitch.
St. John’s record for the season improves to 14-5 while Algonquin falls to 13-6.
