Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Police Department released this statement this afternoon:
On Monday, May 16th 2016 at 5:52 pm Shrewsbury Police responded to a residence on Balsam Circle for a suspicious male in the rear of the house but subsequently fled the area on foot. A description of the suspect, who was later identified as Shuyler D. Gibson, age 32, 1059 Main Street, Worcester, Ma. was given out and while officers were searching the area a stolen motor vehicle was discovered on Rawson Hill Drive that the suspect had used. A short distance away on Rawson Hill Drive the suspect broke into a residence and was scared off by the homeowner. The suspect then fled to another residential neighborhood approximately a half mile away onto Colonial Drive and approached a residence where he identified himself as a Sheriffs Officer and said he was serving paperwork. That resident immediately called 911 and the suspect fled on foot.
The suspect went to another residence on Colonial Drive and broke into the garage of the residence where he stole a motor vehicle and fled in the motor vehicle. While fleeing on Colonial Drive he nearly struck with the motor vehicle Officer Matthew Caola of the Shrewsbury Police who was on foot looking for the suspect. At this point Shrewsbury Officers began to pursue the suspect in the stolen motor vehicle from Colonial Drive onto Rt. 140 North into Boylston. The suspect traveled on Rt. 140 North until he drove the stolen vehicle off the roadway by the Wachusett Reservoir in Boylston and fled on foot into the woods where he was apprehended by Shrewsbury Officers Matthew Caola, Adam Cameron and Kevin Caviston.
