Barbara A. MungeamHudson – Barbara A. Rimkus Mungeam , 88 of Hudson, passed away peacefully on 11/11/23 after a long illness. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Alan L Mungeam in 2021. She was the daughter of the late Victor and Anna Rimkus, also of Hudson.

Barbara was a lifelong learner. She graduated from Hudson High School, Worcester Junior College and after many years of going to school nights while Alan cared for their 5 children at home, Clark University in Worcester. Later in life she attended evening classes at Assabet Valley Technical High School and received a certificate in Computer Automated Drafting.

Barbara held many jobs including working at MIT Labs in Cambridge, Hudson Public Schools in the Special Education department, Holiday Inn in Marlboro, Merrimack Laboratories in Hudson, and for her daughter Sandy in her later years.

She most cherished raising her 5 children with Alan, involving herself in all aspects of her children’s lives. Barbara was an animal lover and every child in the neighborhood knew where to bring the injured baby birds and squirrels they found. Many stray cats and dogs found their way to the Mungeam house as well.

Barbara and Alan took their children on many camping, hiking, and skiing trips over the years in MA and NH. They loved spending time at Salisbury Beach and for many years celebrated every wedding anniversary in Salisbury with their children and grandchildren.

Barbara and Alan loved traveling, taking frequent trips to Florida, Jekyll Island, GA, Newport RI, and Niagara Falls. They also enjoyed taking group tours, visiting sites across the US and Canada. One of Barbara’s favorite activities was spending an afternoon at a casino with Alan, sometimes accompanied by Cousin Chickie or Sue and Chris. Barbara loved to walk with her husband. They were often seen walking around town together before Alan passed away in 2021.

Barbara was a giving person. All of the dogs along their walking routes knew that Barbara had a dog biscuit or two in her pocket for them. She will always be remembered for frequently dispensing scratch tickets to the kids and grandkids, along with a little ‘sweet’ from her purse for a grandkid in need.

Barbara is survived by her daughters Anna St James and her husband Rand of Sandwich MA, Mary Geary of Worcester MA, Sandy Bouchard and her husband John of Hudson MA, and Sue Mungeam and her fiancée Chris Marsicano of Hudson MA. She also leaves 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Along with her husband, Barbara was also predeceased by her son David Mungeam and her brother Victor Rimkus.

Barbara was very proud to say that she was born in Hudson and continued to live there most of her entire life. Due to her declining health Barbara became a resident of Christopher House of Worcester. Barbara’s family would like to thank the nurses, aids, and support staff for their kind and compassionate care.

Calling hours for Barbara will be held on Tuesday November 21, 2023, from 4pm-6pm, at Tighe Hamilton Regional Funeral Home, 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Wednesday November 22, 2023, at Saint Michael Parish, 23 Manning Street, Hudson; followed by a procession to Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson, MA.
