John F. PowersEast Dennis – John F. “Jack” Powers, 82, of East Dennis, formerly of Shrewsbury passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, January 7th, 2024.

Jack was born in Worcester, May 18, 1941, the son of Nicholas J. Powers and Mary T. (Petty) Powers-Birch. Raised in Shrewsbury, John graduated from Shrewsbury High School and attended Worcester Junior College. John then served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He had a life-long career as the Director of Loss Prevention for Jordan Marsh followed by President and Owner of John F. Powers Associates prior to retiring. In retirement John worked part time for 17 years at the Hy-Line Cruises of Hyannis as a Security Supervisor.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 60 years, Esther F. DiPasquale and their three daughters, MaryFrances Staples and her husband Jeffrey of Shrewsbury, Michele F Strand of Worcester, Donna-Jean Catino and her husband Chris of Spencer, his nephew and niece Richard and Mara Burns who lived with him after the passing of their mother, Donna (DiPasquale) Burns. He also leaves behind his brother Paul Powers and his wife Vickie of Yarmouth, his sister Patricia Carey and her husband Jonathan of Auburn and his sister and brother-in-law, Ann Marie and Richard Mercadante of Shrewsbury and many nieces and nephews.

He was most proud to be “Papa” to his grandchildren, Jeffrey and his wife Erica, Lyndsay, Chelsea, Nicholas, Madison, Christopher and Anthony.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Dr. Maria Delrosario for her commitment, dedication and compassion to Jack and his family.

Jack was the leader of “Donna’s Wave” a group of family and friends that supported the Relay for Life organization in memory of his sister-in-law Donna. He served as President of the Worcester Figure Skating Association and was an active member of St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury.

A period of calling hours will be held Friday, January 12th from 9 am to 10:30 am in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Worcester, MA, followed by a procession to St. Anne’s Church, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. Burial with Air Force honors will follow in St John Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Cancer Research.
