Marlborough children's lunch program relies on donations

Marlborough – Over 900 bagged lunches were distributed most weeks last year by the Marlborough Children's Summer Lunch Program. Completely run by volunteers with donations, the program fills the gap during summer months for children who receive free or subsidized lunch during the school year. The number of lunches needed this summer is expected to rise, according to Peggy Schwarz Ayres, who founded the program in 2006. "The need is increasing all the time," she said. "More than a third of the children enrolled in Marlborough Public Schools are on the free or reduced lunch program. When school closes, that program closes."

Marlborough's STEM program deemed a success

Maureen Greulich, Instructional Leadership Director and Bill Rigney, STEM Instructional Specialist, told the School Committee that students are helping one another, working as a team in solving problems and responding to new teaching techniques with interest and enthusiasm.

Westborough - Every time you flush the toilet, assuming you'se hooked into the sewer system, that sewage travels through miles of piping and lift stations to eventually arrive at a wastewater treatment plant. Marlborough's Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant, headed by interim Chief Operator Scott Rossi, processes about 3 million gallons of water a day sourced from the entire east side of the city, plus accommodating septic pumper trucks from both Marlborough and Northborough. It is a daunting challenge to deal with so much waste and the accompanying smells, and Rossi admitted as much. "It's not a glamorous job...it's a very important job," he said.
