Interboro Community Band to present free winter concert
Southborough – The Interboro Community Band will be holding a free winter concert Sunday, Dec. 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the Trottier Middle School.
The concert, which will be conducted by Richard Romanoff, will be a family friendly event that will feature some well-loved pieces such as the “King Cotton March,” “Holst's Second Suite” and the “British 8th March” as well as some lesser known, but very enjoyable works. Refreshments will be available at intermission.
Turkey Trot raises $5,500 for Northborough Food Pantry
Northborough – Over two hundred walkers and runners did not let snowy conditions stop them from participating in the seventh annual Thanksgiving Day 5k Turkey Trot held Nov. 27. The annual event, organized by Northborough residents Rita Matraia and Maggie Kosovsky, raised $5,500 this year for the Northborough Food Pantry.

Marlborough – Paul V. Harrington, a lifelong resident of Marlborough, is a U.S. Navy veteran who served in World War II. Recently he flew to Washington D.C. for the day as the guest of Honor Flight New England.
Iconic Edgemere Diner once again open for business
Shrewsbury – It took a bit longer than they planned but Nov. 11 the new owners of the iconic Edgemere Diner were finally able to open their doors for business.
Michael Novick and Stephen Colangelo have been friends since their kindergarten days growing up in Worcester. Both have decades of restaurant experience but this is their first foray into ownership.
Center gives children with Down syndrome a chance to dance

Northborough holds rainy tree lighting
Northborough – A festive crowd braved the rain during Northborough’s tree lighting Dec. 6. The annual tradition dates back to 1968, when the tree was planted in memory of Northborough resident Neil Ellsworth, who was killed in Vietnam the previous year. Several members of the Ellsworth family were present for the tree lighting.
Downtown Hudson hosts 12th ‘Holiday Stroll’
Hudson – On a drizzly Dec. 6, residents with umbrellas in hand attended the 12th annual Hudson Downtown Holiday Stroll. Children shared their gift requests with Santa Claus by the fireplace at the Hudson Senior Center. All ages got a unique perspective of downtown while riding a horse-drawn hayride.
Santa changes his mode of transport to Southborough
Southborough – On a damp Dec. 6, families donned rain gear and attended the 37th annual Santa Day. This was only the second time in the event’s long history that inclement weather grounded Santa’s helicopter, which usually lands on St. Mark’s School field.

Shrewsbury - Santa Claus made a visit to the delight of many young patrons of the Shrewsbury Public Library at its temporary site at 214 Lake St. Dec. 6.

Shrewsbury – Santa Claus made a special visit to the Sumner House Dec. 6. He arrived via a Shrewsbury fire engine to the delight of many children who were anxiously awaiting the chance to talk with him and tell him their holiday wishes.
Sheriff’s office distributes over 3,000 winter coats
Shrewsbury – Worcester County Sheriff Lewis Evangelidis delivered more than 3,000 winter coats to 11 community organizations throughout the county Dec. 3 and 5, as part of the fourth annual Winter Coat Drive. The last stop was at St. Anne’s Church in Shrewsbury.

Marlborough – Weather cooperated for the first time in recent years when residents gathered Dec. 5 at Union Common for the annual Home for the Holidays.
Community celebrates 25th anniversary of giving
Marlborough – Hundreds of guests supported the 25th annual Evening of Giving, held Dec. 4 at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel. They sampled offerings from 29 eateries, then treated themselves to make-your-own-sundaes from Trombetta’s Farm.
Ringing the bell to help those in need
Marlborough – Volunteers from across all spectrums have stepped up to man shifts ringing the Salvation Army (TSA) bell this season as a way to benefit locally based Friends of Families in Transition (FFIT). TSA is “paying” the organization an hourly rate for every bell ringing shift that is covered by a volunteer.
After slow start, Shrewsbury organization hopes for donations for toys for kids in need
Shrewsbury - The 10th annual charity toy drive for children hosted by Shrewsbury Youth and Family Services (SYFS) and the Worcester County Department for Children and Families (DCF) has unfortunately gotten off to a slow start this year. Toy collection boxes have remained nearly empty. But a kind-hearted Shrewsbury family is hoping that their recent large donation of toys will help to inspire others to “pay it forward.”
‘Be a Santa for a Senior’ program kicks off in Northborough

Shrewsbury Patriots Division 12 cheerleaders to compete in nationals
Shrewsbury - For the second year in a row, the Shrewsbury Patriots Division 12 cheerleaders are heading to national championship competition. The Division 12 team, coached by Erly Scott, is the first Shrewsbury team to attend Nationals for two consecutive years.
After placing first in the American Youth Cheerleading (AYC) local competition in Lowell, the D12 team was up against tough competitors from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Connecticut at the AYC Regional Competition held in Manchester, N.H. Nov. 22. The girls placed second, earning a spot at the 2014 AYC National Championship which will be held in Orlando, Fla. Thursday, Dec. 13 and Friday, Dec. 14.
Rotary Club lights downtown Westborough for holidays
Westborough – The Rotary Club of Westborough continued its tradition to brighten downtown Nov. 30 during the annual Festival of Lights. Festivities began with members of the Westborough High School (WHS) Chorus leading a sing-along of carols.
Hundreds ‘gobble wobble’ on snow-lined course
Southborough – Hundreds of runners and walkers worked up a Thanksgiving appetite Nov. 27 by participating in the eighth annual Gobble Wobble 5K Road Race and Two-Mile Walk, beginning and ending at Trottier Middle School. Despite recovering from a snowstorm that morning, most of the 1,172 supporters who registered did participate. Only the Kids Fun Run was canceled.
