Mariana NogueiraHudson – Mariana (Martins) Nogueira of Hudson passed away peacefully on Friday morning, October 6, 2023, surrounded by family.

Devoted mother to Cristina Couture and husband, Rick, Tony Nogueira and wife, Dawn, and Elizete Nogueira. Loving grandmother to Ryan and Gabrielle Couture. She is also survived by her brother Joao, sisters Aida and Maria, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters and brothers in law. She was preceded in death by her sister Ana, and brothers Jose Antonio and Domingos.

Mariana was born in the small village of Sarraquinhos in Portugal and at the young age of 11, she lost her father. She put her own formal education aside to help raise her brothers and sisters. Mariana gave her love selflessly, faced adversity with a smile, and cared for everyone before herself.

She settled in Hudson in 1972 and raised her children as a single mother with the help of family and friends. She was an extremely hardworking and talented seamstress, having worked at Gould’s clothing store for over 20 years and doing countless alterations for customers out of her home.

She loved to cook and we will miss her bolos de bacalhau at Christmas, her rice pudding, and her famous chicken parm. She also loved gardening, being at the beach, knitting, and going for walks. We can all still picture her walking through town with a smile across her face. As some like to say, she was a “little powerhouse in heels.” Above all else, she treasured the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.

We will miss her genuine smile, generosity, endearing stories, tight hugs, and endless amounts of love she had for her family and friends. Most notably, her strength is something we all admired. With all the challenges she faced throughout her life, she still only ever worried about others. Mariana was an inspiration for all those who met her. Although our hearts will forever hurt from her absence, we are all blessed to have had her in our lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Wednesday, October 11, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Tighe Hamilton Funeral Home in Hudson, MA. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, October 12, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Michael Parish in Hudson, MA; followed by a procession to Saint Michael Cemetery, Hudson, MA, for committal services to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an organization that was dear to her heart.
